How to compare furniture and building-material quotations

Make the specification and exclusions comparable before comparing the total.

Published 28 August 2026 · OneSpaceCN buying guide

THE SHORT ANSWER

Two quotations are comparable only when the product specification, quantity, packing and delivery boundary are comparable. Keep the original supplier quotations, normalize the items in a separate comparison sheet, and write down every unresolved difference.

Compare the same product, not just the same photograph

A similar-looking sofa can differ in frame, cushion construction, upholstery and size. Cabinet prices can differ because of board specification, hardware, edge treatment and installation scope. Put these fields in the comparison instead of treating a matching image as an identical offer.

Use a consistent comparison sheet

FieldWhat to record
ProductRoom, item code, quantity and unit
SpecificationDimensions, material, finish, hardware and drawing revision
PriceCurrency, unit price, total, validity and payment milestones
PackingProtection method, crate requirement and packing charges
DeliveryNamed place, transport scope and excluded services
Open itemsMissing evidence, optional upgrades and approval required

Separate the known total from the incomplete total

List product value, service fees, packing, domestic transport, international freight and destination charges separately when available. Mark an unquoted cost as “not confirmed”, not zero. Duties, unloading and installation should not be assumed to be included because the headline mentions delivery.

Choose against a written baseline

Save the selected quotation and its attachments together. Record accepted substitutions and rejected alternatives. If dimensions, finish or quantity change, request a revised quotation before treating the earlier total or lead time as valid. Local tax and regulatory questions need a qualified destination specialist.

TAKE THIS INTO YOUR PROJECT

Your takeaway checklist

  • Original quotations retained
  • Same specification and quantity
  • Exclusions shown explicitly
  • Selected revision recorded

Planning guidance only. Product specifications, prices, fees, dates and responsibilities require written project confirmation. Local technical and regulatory approvals remain with the responsible professionals.
