What to confirm before ordering custom cabinets

Connect site dimensions, appliances, materials and drawings before production.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Custom cabinets need a coordinated drawing and specification baseline. Confirm site measurements, appliance models, service positions, materials, hardware and installation responsibilities before approving production. A render shows design direction; it is not a substitute for fabrication information.

Start with site information

Identify who measured the site and when. Check wall lengths, finished floor level, ceiling height, corners, openings and service locations. Record which dimensions are final and which depend on construction still in progress. Ask the local installer to identify access or fitting constraints before the supplier finalizes production drawings.

Match appliances to their installation documents

Use the exact appliance model and manufacturer installation information. Overall dimensions alone may not show ventilation, door clearance, service access or cut-out requirements. Where the information is missing, keep the affected cabinet or worktop detail open instead of inferring it from a photograph.

Record the specification in plain language

  • Carcass, door and panel materials, thickness and finish references.
  • Hardware brand/model or an explicitly approved equivalent.
  • Worktop material, thickness, edges, joints and cut-outs.
  • Handles, internal fittings, lighting channels and accessories.
  • Drawing revision, sample reference and approval date.

Define responsibility before production

Identify who approves dimensions, who verifies destination requirements, who installs and who supplies consumables or tools. Track changes in one revision register. This is a coordination checklist, not engineering approval or confirmation of compliance in any country.

TAKE THIS INTO YOUR PROJECT

Your takeaway checklist

  • Current site measurements
  • Exact appliance models
  • Material and hardware schedule
  • Approved drawing revision

Planning guidance only. Product specifications, prices, fees, dates and responsibilities require written project confirmation. Local technical and regulatory approvals remain with the responsible professionals.
